Cigar Box Inspection Guidelines

Industry Solution

What tests do cigar boxes undergo after sampling before mass production?

For experienced cigar humidor manufacturers, each sample completed at Humidor undergoes a series of rigorous quality verifications and functional tests. Professionalism ensures the quality of every cigar box.

So what specific tests are conducted?

After sampling, cigar boxes typically undergo a series of rigorous tests, including structural testing, environmental testing, functional testing, sealing testing, appearance testing, and transportation and drop testing. Only after confirming that the sample fully meets design requirements and quality standards will it enter the mass production stage.

The following is the specific inspection process:

Structural Testing

After the humidor box sample is completed, we first conduct structural and dimensional inspections. The purpose of this step is to ensure that the appearance, structure, and internal compartment design of the humidor box meet the customer's customization requirements.

The inspection includes:

Dimensional tolerances (accuracy controlled within ±0.5mm);
Hinge and metal component durability opening and closing test;
Verification of the matching degree between cigar slot size and capacity.

Only through these rigorous steps can we guarantee that each custom-made cigar humidor will be stable, comfortable, and precise in actual use.

Environmental Testing

As a professional cigar humidor manufacturer, we understand that cigars are extremely sensitive to humidity and temperature. Therefore, before mass production, we conduct constant temperature and humidity tests on samples.

Temperature and Humidity Cycling Test

Temperature: 16℃ to 28℃ (daily fluctuation ±2℃).

Humidity: 60%RH to 75%RH (daily fluctuation ±3%RH).

Duration: 30 days.

Data Requirements: Daily humidity fluctuation ≤2%RH (proving stable sealing).

The humidor surface should be free of mold and deformation, and the cigars inside should not be damp or cracked.

Accelerated Aging Test

Test Conditions:

Temperature: 40℃±2℃, Humidity: 75%RH±5%, for 14 days (equivalent to 1 year at room temperature).

Data Requirements: Sealing performance degradation rate ≤10% (compared to initial data using the vacuum degradation method). The box material shows no signs of brittleness or discoloration, and the sealing strip retains ≥90% of its elasticity.

Extreme Environment Test Data

High Temperature and High Humidity Test

Test Conditions:

Temperature: 65℃±2℃, Humidity: 90%RH±5%, for 72 hours.

Data Requirements: Internal humidity rise ≤5%RH (proving moisture-proof performance).

The sealing strip shows no expansion or detachment, and the box body shows no deformation.

Low Temperature Test
Test Conditions:
Temperature: -20℃±2℃, for 24 hours.

Data Requirements: The box shows no cracking, and the sealing strip shows no hardening or shrinkage.

After testing, the box is returned to room temperature, and the sealing performance still meets the initial standard.

Functional Testing

We conduct multiple rounds of functional verification during the sampling phase to ensure that each humidor not only boasts a high-end appearance but also possesses professional humidification capabilities.

We simulate real-world usage scenarios, such as repeated opening and closing tests (≥5000 opening and closing cycles without loosening or damage).

If it includes an inner tray (e.g., made of EVA, sponge, or plastic), we check its stability and cushioning performance.

We conduct material odor and compatibility tests (to ensure it does not affect the aroma of the cigars).

Custom humidor manufacturers will adjust the humidifier position, humidity control chip, and internal wood type according to customer requirements to achieve scientific storage and precise humidity control.

Sealing Test

The sealing test is one of the most crucial aspects of humidor quality control, directly determining the preservation effect and user experience of cigars.

Multiple testing methods are used, such as:
Air tightness: Helium mass spectrometry leak detection ≤1×10⁻⁶ Pa·m³/s.

Waterproof performance: Simulated rainwater erosion ensures internal humidity change ≤5%.

Data Requirements: Humidity fluctuation ≤3% within 24 hours when the box is sealed.

To ensure excellent sealing, a comprehensive consideration must be given to materials, structural design, manufacturing precision, and hardware. High-end cigar humidor manufacturers typically use Spanish cedar wood linings, precision CNC cutting, and concealed sealing ring designs to achieve optimal airtightness.

Appearance Testing

Ensuring consistent visual quality across mass-produced cigar boxes.

Inspection Items:
Uniformity of surface paint or leather texture
Color difference test (ΔE controlled within ≤1.0~1.5)
Precision of logo hot stamping/silk screen printing/engraving
Consistency of color and gloss of hardware
Smoothness of edge grinding

Transportation and Drop Testing

Vibration + Pressure Combined Test
Test Conditions:
Vibration frequency: 5Hz-200Hz, amplitude 1.5mm, duration 2 hours.

Simultaneously apply 30kPa pressure (simulating stacking pressure).

Data Requirements: Sealing loss rate after testing ≤5% (verified via vacuum decay method).

The box should not deform or crack, and internal humidity fluctuation ≤2%RH.

Drop Test

Test Conditions: Free fall from a height of 1 meter onto a hard surface, once on each of the 6 sides.

Data Requirements: After the drop, the seal must still meet the underwater decompression test standard (no continuous air bubbles, no water seepage).

Box Structural Integrity: No cracks, glue detachment, or displacement of the sealing strip.
